P.R.O.M.I.S.E. is a non-profit organization. It is governed by the Board of Directors and community volunteers. All federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines are adhered to.
P.R.O.M.I.S.E. On The Move is the north side group of concerned residents that emerged out of senseless killings and numerous shootings in and around the Pittsburgh neighborhoods. July 29, 2007 over 500 people came through inner-city neighborhoods to hear a message that the P.R.O.M.I.S.E. group delivered regarding violence and senseless murders. We created this group to help aid men, women, and children who have lost loved ones violently.
The non-violent gathering was attended by city officials, poets, African Drummers, ministers that represented many different churches. Motor cyclist and most of all the others was people from those inner city neighborhoods where the violence is rampant and they want to know when it will end.
The gathering had such an impact on the participants, that over one hundred of the residents and spectators signed up for a community group that was just formed, they called themselves “Protect and Restore the Order of Mankind with the Initiative of Serving Elders” (P.R.O.M.I.S.E.). We have meeting and organizing every other Tuesday since August, 2007
Thus far we have planned and implemented fundraising events, attended town meetings and participated in street vigils after shootings and other violence. However, we are in need of funding for organizing and capacity building.
While we understand that there are many other organizations with the same goals in mind, we are planning to be proactive and help the youth before they become victims or perpetrators. We want to bridge the gap between the young and the old.
Our future plans include building/rehabbing a space for youth to meet and enjoy programs, services, and activities. This space will provide a safe, fun, educational, social, and physical facility for our youth to share information and ideas and to unite.
P.R.O.M.I.S.E. is in the development stage. When the organization is fully developed our programs and services will provide spiritual, social, education, emotional, and physical activities, events and programs. The program will target children throughout the City of Pittsburgh.
Discrimination Policy
Our non-discrimination policy clearly states our goal of an inclusive and non-discriminatory environment in which all youth, volunteers, and supporters are valued and empowered to succeed. It is each Board of Director's responsibility to understand the values and approach of our organization in detail and to comply with protocols of behavior that respect, nurture, and advance such values and approaches.
All youth, volunteers, and supporters will be treated with dignity and respect and will be provided equal opportunities.
